Don’t waste any time and make up your mind today.

There is no doubt that the biggest event of the festival will be the performance of the British producer known by the stage name Mura Masa, whose catchy combination of electro dance, futuristic soul and pop with trap, grime and jungle has won the hearts and minds of fans around the world in the recent years. Crowned with the number one status on British and American Spotify for the “Lovesick” single, his meteoric career seems to be just the beginning of a much bigger story. Released in summer, the debut album “Mura Masa” established him as a ray hope for the world of music. Interestingly, Mura Masa’s studio sessions are as impressive as his live performances.

Many Polish fans will be excited to see and listen to Nightmares On Wax. He’s one of the pillars of the legendary Warp label and an icon of the stoned and relaxed downtempo. He’s been actively performing for almost three decades, yet still remains an acclaimed and up-to-date musician. It’s worth mentioning that his Boiler Room gig from 2013 has got 5.7 m views on YouTube. Next year, he’ll be releasing his eighth album, parts of which we will surely be able to listen to in Katowice.

Next year’s 13th edition of the festival will abound in intriguing jazz themes. The list of invited jazzmen includes Sol & „Pimp” Sessions from Japan. The band is Gilles Peterson’s personal favourite. They combine the highest form of musicality with the latest sounds and immersive atmosphere. Poland will be proudly represented by Młynarski-Masecki Jazz Band and their concert dedicated to pre-war jazz from the banks of the Vistula river. New Zealand-born Jordan Rakei will perform in Katowice accompanied by a full band and will present his own version of soul, enriched with elements of reggae, dub, hip-hop and dance.

The techno scene will also have a strong representation. DJ Stingray from Detroit is famous for his uncompromising vinyl sets, during which he skilfully mixes raw techno and electro. Varg is considered an “enfant terrible” of the electro scene, combining passion for dark experiments with complex attempts to play with audience’s emotions. Errorsmith is a well-deserved devotee of musical exploration, who has been present on the electro scene since the ‘90s., contributing to projects such as Smith n Hack. Autumn marked his comeback after 13 years of silence with a critically acclaimed album “Superlative Fatigue”. Another act serving experimental techno will be the Halal & Relaxer duo composed of Aurora Halal and Daniel Martin-McCormick (previously Ital). Popular German DJ Alex Niggeman is famous for his ability to blur the lines between techno and house as well as immersive sets.

The act that might turn out to be the dark horse of the 13th edition of the festival is 47soul. The band was formed by Palestinian refugees living in Jordan and their artistic work encompasses Arabic street music, hip-hop and electro beats. The Middle East will also be represented by an Israeli duo Red Axes, whose psychedelic, slowed-down version of acid house has gained a lot of fans and followers across Europe over the recent years. Some exotic sounds can also be heard in the music of Evan Shornstein, better known as Photay. The American producer combines West African polyrhythm with experimental sampling and field recordings as well as natural sounds with synthetic ones.

The announcement of the first 13 artists invited to perform at the 13th edition of the festival is just the beginning of unveiling the whole programme of Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice 2018. Between June 28 and July 1, 2018, the Culture Zone in Katowice will once again be taken over by the hottest and most intriguing beats from around the world. Tauron Nowa Muzyka Katowice is one of Europe’s most acclaimed music festivals and every year its status is confirmed by a fascinating artistic programme and extraordinary location in the very hearth of Silesia. It’s definitely worth revisiting.
