A solo project of Evan Shornstein from the evergreen valley of Woodstock in the state of New York. Initially inspired by the work of Aphex Twin, he quickly expanded his music by turntablism and African polyrhythm, which he got acquainted with during his trip to Guinea. Photay combines rich rhythmicity with experimental sampling and field recordings, analogue sources of sounds with digital ones, and natural sounds with synthetic ones. His touching structures with catchy melodies have entranced various artists, such as Gilles Peterson, Mary Ann Hobbes, SBTRKT or Bonobo.
